Get found and never miss a customerGoogle, Maps and AI assistants

SEO and GEO, so customers find you on Google, on Maps and in AI answers.

SEO is how your business shows up on Google and Google Maps when people nearby search for what you do. GEO, generative engine optimization, is how it gets found, described accurately and recommended when people ask AI assistants like ChatGPT or Gemini. Alpine Ops does both for businesses in the Uintah Basin, starting with your website and your Google Business Profile.

01What they are

SEO and GEO, in plain words.

SEO gets you found when people search Google and Maps. GEO gets you found, described accurately and recommended when people ask an AI assistant. Both depend on the same thing: clear, consistent facts about your business.

02Why both matter now

People still search. More of them also just ask.

Customers find local businesses two ways now: searching Google and Maps, and asking an AI assistant. You want to be accurate in both.

A hand holding a phone with a map and a list of nearby businesses, inside a vehicle on a small-town main street.
  1. 2.1

    Local searches lead to calls

When someone nearby searches for what you do, the map results show a handful of businesses with hours, reviews and a call button. Many people call straight from there, without ever opening a website.

  2. 2.2

Assistants give one answer, not ten links

Ask an AI assistant for a recommendation and it names a few businesses and explains why. If what it can find about you is thin or wrong, you get left out or described wrong.

  3. 2.3

    The same facts feed both

Your website, your Google Business Profile, your listings and your reviews are where search engines and AI assistants learn about you. Get them right once, and both benefit.

03Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is the listing behind the map.

A Google Business Profile is Google's free business listing. It's what shows up in Google Maps and in the local map results when people search for what you do nearby, with your hours, phone number, directions, photos and reviews.

Why it drives local calls

For a local business, the profile often does more work than the website. It's the first thing many people see, and it puts a call button, directions and your reviews one tap away. A complete, accurate profile gives Google more to match against what people search, and gives customers a reason to pick you.

  1. Someone searches nearby

"Plumber near me", or the service plus your town.

  2. The map results appear

A few businesses, each with a rating, hours and a call button.

  3. They open a profile

Photos, services, reviews and your replies help them decide.

  4. They call, or get directions

    Often straight from the profile.

What a complete profile includes

Google gives you room for far more than a name and a phone number. A complete profile fills in all of it, and keeps it current.

  • Your business name, as it appears on your sign

No extra keywords or town names stuffed in. Google's guidelines ask for your real name.

  • The right categories

A primary category that says what you are, plus any others that truly fit.

  • Hours, including holiday hours

So nobody drives over to a locked door.

  • Services or products

Listed one by one, in the words customers use.

  • Address or service area

Your storefront, or the towns you drive to if you work at customers' places.

  • Phone and website

The same number and site you use everywhere else.

  • Real, recent photos

Your shop, your trucks, your work. Kept fresh.

  • Posts and updates

News, seasonal services and offers, posted to the profile.

  • Clear answers to customer questions

Google has retired the old public Q&A and now answers questions with AI, drawing on your profile, website and reviews. Put the answers there, plainly.

  • Reviews, with your replies

A reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm, human voice.

04Consistent facts and reviews

Say your name, address and phone the same way everywhere.

Search engines and AI assistants compare what different sites say about you. When your name, address, phone number and hours match everywhere, they trust those facts. When they don't, they guess, and customers get the old number or the wrong hours.

Example: one business, four listings

Spot what doesn't match.

Why reviews and replies matter

Reviews help people choose between you and the business next to you in the map results.

  • People read reviews before they call, and your rating sits right next to your name.
  • Google says reviews are part of how it ranks local results.
  • Your replies show the next customer how you treat people, especially when something went wrong.
  • AI assistants can draw on reviews when they describe a business.
Watch out

Never buy reviews or offer something in return for one. Google's policies don't allow it. Ask happy customers, and reply to everyone.

05GEO in practice

How to get AI assistants to describe your business correctly.

AI assistants build their answers from what they can find and trust. GEO is making sure what they find about you is clear, factual, consistent and easy to quote.

What helps

  • Plain facts on your website. What you do, where, your hours and how to reach you, in full sentences.
  • Structured data. Schema.org markup that labels those facts so machines read them correctly.
  • An llms.txt file. A plain summary of your business, written for AI assistants.
  • FAQs in customers' words. The questions people actually ask, answered directly.
  • The same facts everywhere. Your profile, listings and social pages agree with your site.
  • Mentions on trusted local sites. Associations, local news and the businesses you work with.

What doesn't

  • Stuffing pages with keywords and town names.
  • Pages written for robots instead of people.
  • Claims you can't back up. Assistants repeat them, and customers notice.

  "openingHours": "Mo-Fr 07:00-17:00",
  "telephone": "your main number",
  "url": "https://example.com"
}

Example. The same facts as your page, labeled so search engines and AI assistants can't misread them.

See every question
9.1What is the difference between SEO and GEO?

SEO is about showing up in Google search and Google Maps when people search for what you do nearby. GEO, generative engine optimization, is about being found, described accurately and recommended when people ask AI assistants. Both rely on clear, consistent facts about your business, so the same work helps both.

9.2Do I need a Google Business Profile?

If customers find you locally, yes. It's Google's free business listing, and it's what appears in Google Maps and the local map results. Our Google Business Profile checklist walks through what a complete profile includes.

9.3Can you guarantee I will rank first on Google?

No. Nobody can honestly promise a ranking, a spot in the map results or a number of visitors, and we won't. We make your facts accurate, consistent and easy to read, and we show you how you show up.

9.4Do you manage my Google Business Profile for me?

We help hands-on: claiming it if needed, completing it, and keeping it accurate and consistent with your website. The profile stays in your name, and you approve what changes.

9.5How do you check how I show up in AI assistants?

We run a set of real local searches, the kind your customers would type or ask, in Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. Then we report back in plain words: where you show up, what's described wrong, and what we'd fix first.

9.6How much does SEO and GEO cost?

It's quoted up front, before anything starts. It can be its own project or part of a website or larger build, and you know the exact price before we begin.
